Ready for your Entrance?

Fall is such a great time of year because all you need are a few show stopping pieces in your wardrobe, and your accessories can do the rest. You can make a jaw dropping entrance just by adding a scarf to an outfit, they add an element of drama. The Marc Jacob's paisley print scarves above are a nice alternative to the plaid and animal prints that we have been seeing. The Marc Jacobs scarves retail between $150-$450, but keep in mind vintage/thrift stores are a great place to find scarves to get you through the upcoming fall/winter seasons.

The chill is in the air in the bay area, so fellas time to pull out your favorite peacoat. I recommend the authentic anchor peacoat from J. Crew. You're sure to block the chill and look sexy while doing so, the coat retails for $255. A little pricey, however, it'll last forever.

Historic Hemlines

The Gap is celebrating a Birthday. The San Francisco based retailer was founded 40 years ago in 1969 by Donald and Doris F. Fisher. The name originated from the popular 1960's phrase "the generation gap" used to describe generational differences between baby boomers and their parents, and also the "gap in the market" they intended to fill. I believe the Gap has lasted throughout the years because they have garnered a reputation for basic looks with superior quality that will stand the test of time. Cheers, to the Gap! Haute Tea

For those that know me I'm a connoisseur of fine teas, with that being said H&HS will be highlighting some recipes that you can do at home. One of my favorites is Indian Spice Chai Tea, take a sip this Sunday morning and enjoy!

INGREDIENTS
4 cup water
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon cardamom seeds
1 item 2-inch stick cinnamon
3 item quarter-size slices of fresh ginger, coarsely crushed
2 teaspoon loose black tea leaves or 3 tea bags
8 to 10 item black peppercorns

PREPARATION
In medium-size saucepan, add everything except tea leaves and honey; bring to boil over high heat. Lower heat; continue to boil another minute to extract maximum flavor from spices. Add tea, turn off heat, cover pan, and set aside to steep, about 3 minutes. Pour through a tea strainer or very fine mesh strainer into teacups. Discard spices and leaves. Serve hot with honey or sugar on the side.

Protege Hemlines

I heard Oprah say one day "each one teach one", and that really hit my spirit. This is how our future leaders are groomed for success. Vogue editor at large Andre Leon Talley has exercised his right to do just that. Talley has seeked out a 24 year old ex law student to be his protege and personal photographer. His name is Jason Riffe, he left law school in 2007 and pursued a career in fashion photography. Riffe attended Savannah College Of Art & Design, where he met Talley who's on the board of trustees. Emails were exchanged between the two and the rest is shutterbug history. Riffe is still perfecting is skills under the watchful eye of Talley, aaah a star is born. Five stiletto stars go out to Andre Leon Talley, for mentoring a young brotha who will make a difference behind the scenes. Ultra fab.

Haute Investment

Men, if you are looking for a secure fall investment, try a cashmere sweater. This sweater provides enough versatility to be worn not only in the fall, but over a collared shirt in the winter, as well as over a tee on a cool spring night. Start with a charcoal gray like the one above and build your wardrobe from there. A well made cashmere sweater will last for years, and will definitely hold its value. Foldover Fad

For every season there are obviously new trends, but there are few fads that I obsess over. Well, that day has come, it's official, there will be many restless nights until I get a pair of fold over boots. Many boot styles have carried over from last season with slight variations, but the fold over boot is one of the hautest styles, bringing a fresh look into the fall 09' season. On The Radar

It is my duty here at H&HS to keep you in the fashion loop so you are always one stiletto step ahead of the rest. So, here is the scoop on the trend to be on the look out for; it is the bib necklace. This bold accessory makes an impressive statement when worn with the most simplistic outfit. Try one with a plain white tank, or a very simple LBD (little black dress). The first necklace above can be found at www.bananarepublic.com ($150.00), and the second is available at Macy's ($32.00).

Haute Tips & Toes

I'm a big fan of Essie brand polish, it has a high shine with staying power. So, naturally I was excited to hear of the collaboration between Essie and jewelry designer Judith Ripka. The glossy nail paint is said to be infused with diamond dust, and comes in three gorgeous shades. There is a dark burgundy called "Heart My JR Jewels", a daring diva red named "Queen of Hearts", and a subtle pink referred to as "Put a Ripka Ring on it" (...and the Sasha Fierce influence continues). $15 at www.essieshop.com

Kate Spade's clothing line made its debut on August 11th, and I consider the collection to be quite impressive. Haute Sale

FabFashionista is one of LA's premier sample sales, and it's coming back to SF. The BCBG and Ella Moss sample sale is happening Saturday August 15th from 10AM-4PM at the Fort Mason Center. Dresses, tops, handbags, and more are up to 70% off (cash purchases receive an additional 10% off) http://www.fabfashionistaevents.com/Welcome.html

Hemlines Tip: Most sample sales such as this have open dressing rooms, if one at all, and there can also be a long wait for the rooms. It's best to wear leggings or a flowing skirt with a tank or thin tee, and flip flops. This allows for easy "try on" right in the aisle.
