Haute Mogul

Don't miss mogul extraordinaire P. Diddy on HSN. On November 30 at 11PM (EST) Diddy will be hawking his fragrances Unforgivable and I am King. He will be interviewed in a talk-show-like format, and there is even a specially built set for him. Only the best for Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. I'm sure Diddy will bring an entirely new energy to HSN, which is exactly what they are seeking according to HSN CEO Mindy Grossman.

Plaid Friday

Some of your may be gearing up for the infamous "Black Friday", but "Plaid Friday" is an ideal alternative. Plaid Friday celebrates the diversity and creativity of Bay Area independent businesses; it's designed to create awareness about shopping local, and the importance of supporting the local economy. There are a number of participating businesses that can be found on the Plaid Friday site. Support the movement and wear your plaid on Friday November 27 while you "shop local"

AMA Leftovers

The award goes to......I just wanted to give big ups to Jiggaman for coming correct in the wardrobe department. Sunday night's American Music Awards Jay looked ultra haute. This is called grown man swag. Jay Z definitely took some pointers from old blues himself Frank Sinatra. His performance was haute, haute, haute. So fellas take some notes, and step up!

Haute Sequin

Okay the rain is on it's way, but that never stops the club vixen from showing what her momma gave her! I've been noticing a trend with sequin mini skirts coupled with ankle booties-haute. You can find them cheap at Forever 21, just remember to pair with a solid color top of a different texture. Have a haute weekend and check out the entries below for things to do!

Freeze, Sucka!

Black Dynamite will be shown at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland on Saturday November 21. The movie is a replication of the 70's "blacksploitation" films we are so fond of. The movie has big Afros, retro fashions, and a funky soundtrack to match. It's directed by Scott Sanders and stars Michael Jai White and Sally Richardson. For all you jive turkeys, there will only be one showing on Saturday and it starts a midnight. http://blackdynamitemovie.com/

Haute Soul Man

The haute spot for your hump day is the newly renovated Fox Theater on Telegraph Street in Oakland. The bay area's own Raphael Saadiq will be in concert this Wednesday, I for one am truly excited! I grew up with the Tonies. Ray and D'wayne have always given us some great music; I'm secretly hoping D'wayne will make an appearance and do Anniversary! Raphael's sense of style has always been retro and on point. For ticket info hit up: http://www.thefoxoakland.com/

Runway to Reality

There are some that may give a side-eye or turned up nose to a "knock-off", but some of us appreciate a good copy. Realistically speaking who has $15,965 to blow on a pair of boots in these economic times? Please understand that even most of the Hollywood starlets that you see walking the red carpet in such designer footwear have not paid for those shoes, the shoes have been given to them or they are being borrowed. So, thank goodness for designers like Steve Madden, Nine West, and the above Guess by Marciano for providing great impostors. The above boots (pictured with model) by Balmain retail for $15,965; the second pair (pictured alone) by Guess by Marciano retail for $288 and are available at www.guessbymarciano.com

Haute Holiday Hair

I don't know where the time went? All of a sudden it's November! Okay, so we have Thanksgiving, Christmas, and NYE around the corner; with that being said you must look HAUTE for all the holiday parties and what nots. Ladies I've compiled some of my favorite Haute Holiday Hair Tips.....here we go:

1) Fro Hawk: This hair style is not for everyone! You must be confident and a true curly girly like myself! I must say this is my staple hair dew for right now. Calling all my natural hair stylistas; you will definitely stand out with the Fro Hawk. To attain this look: twist the hair with a little leave in conditioner or your styler of choice, in the morning untwist & use two side combs and spike at the top with fingers. Voila! Ultra haute.

2) Classic Chignon: You can never go wrong with the perfect Chignon; it's classy and simplistic. You will need tons of bobby pins and hairspray or wax for those fly aways.

3) Big Curls: Another one of my favs; I guess you can tell I love big hair! The bigger the better, just as long as the outfit is simple. For me hair can be an accessory, so work it out! You'll need to roller set your tresses and tease, tease, tease. I'd rock this dew for NYE, would be haute. Get your Keri Bradshaw on!
4) Smooth Operator: Get those Chi flat irons out to achieve this look. Some of you ladies like straight sleek hair every now and again. Remember to use a heat protectant before flat ironing. This look is indeed sexy.
Happy Holidays to everyone and stay tuned for Haute Holiday Hemlines, the hair has to accompany an Ultra Fab outfit of course.

Hemlines 5

I recently caught up with Robin Victor, the owner of Renui Day Spa to ask a few questions regarding her business and skin care. Upon entering Renui you take immediate notice of the tranquil atmosphere, and Robin's warm spirit. This holistic lifestyle spa offers a variety of services, and will be hosting Body Drama on Sunday November 29, 2009.

Style Maven: What interested you in becoming an esthetician?
Robin Victor: As a make-up artist when I would apply make-up on someone with problem or irritated skin it would always bother me. We all want to have flawless skin, so I decided to make it my business to work with people to achieve healthy flawless skin.

SM: Even if one may perceive their skin to be “clear”, what are some of the benefits of getting regular facials?
RV: Facials maintain and improve the overall quality of the skin, help reduce premature aging, better circulation, cell regeneration, face massage helps get rid of toxins.

SM: What sets Renui apart from other day spas?
RV: Renui is a Holistic Lifestyle Spa that offers wonderful therapeutic spa treatments, natural nail care, as well as an acne program. We use organic products in many of our treatments and we also offer periodic health & wellness seminars that focus on themes that support living a healthy lifestyle.

SM:
What is one simple thing everyone can do to achieve healthier skin?

RV: The skin is the largest organ on the body and performs many functions. Body brushing with a loofah or scrub brush on dry skin, starting at the toes and working your way up (always brushing in the direction of the heart) helps circulation, sloughs of the dead skin and leaves you feeling exhilarated and refreshed.

SM: What is your favorite “haute spot” and why? (This can be a travel destination, restaurant, or a place that brings you peace like church or the beach for example.)
RV: The Bay Area has many getaways and one of my favorites is Carmel. The drive is not bad and to just go and sit on the ocean is very relaxing for me.

Renui Day Spa is located at 1773 San Pablo Ave. Pinole CA 94564 - (510)717-4239

For Us By Us

Ladies and gentlemen, the return of FUBU. I never saw this one coming. Come on now, don't act like you didn't sport some FUBU back in the day! I think I had some FUBU jeans. The urban clothing giant was introduced back in 1992 by founder Daymond John, and it slated to be reintroduced in the fall of 2010. FUBU was the first real mainstream urban clothing line, with such endorsements from LL Cool J. I think after LL the line started to get over saturated and cheesy. Anybody remember Cross Colors? Yikes! Let's hope they don't make a comeback. With the economy in dire straits this will be interesting to watch. *For those young folks out there FUBU is an acronym meaning: For Us By Us-produced by African Americans for African Americans.

Haute Tip

Hemlines is back with some haute tights; yes it's a bit chilly now, but ladies don't let that stop you from rock'n a cowl neck sweater dress with fashionable hosiery. Loving the two-tone heavy tights-this look is sexy and ultra haute.
